God will never forsake you

Held for eternity by Ali Patel

Today’s thought is an excerpt from Spacious Place: Closer to Jesus Through Imaginative Prayer

No matter the experience you have had of good or bad parents, Father God says he will never leave you. But do you believe it?

You might not have had an attentive father, or any kind of father at all. Yet your Father God has not only chosen you but wants to spend time with you. To focus on you. To listen to you. To love you. To protect you… on your up days… and your down ones.

“Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!” Isaiah 30:18

He wants you to lean in close to hear his words. He also wants you to experience his life-giving presence on a daily, hourly and moment-by-moment basis.

That can be tough to believe, especially if your blueprint for a father was absent, violent, only gave you attention when you were good or when you agreed with him.

God’s love for you is not conditional on your behaviour or keeping him happy. It is unconditional. Because he isn’t just the God of love, he is love.

For more on God’s unconditional love for you and how to meet with God with your heart as well as your head, why not try out one of the visualisation exercises in the book.
